It’s feeling like Spring so it’s the perfect time to debut my latest decorating project. This new build has beautiful gray flooring, satin nickel light fixtures and light gray walls. The neutral palette set the perfect stage for dramatic pops of color and blooming florals. Details like mix-matched pillows and color blocked curtains provide eye candy at every turn. Many people love color but are afraid to use it. My suggestion is starting with a neutral palette and adding in layers of color with art or accent furniture.
Figure out if you prefer warm colors like red, pink, orange or brown, or cool colors like green, blue and white. Like combinations of color? You can mix a cool and a warm (as I did here) by grounding them with a neutral like gray, white, black or brown. I suggest starting with your favorite color and then adding in complementary colors in smaller doses or even painting a wall a bright color and having neutral furniture with bright blooms or pillows.
Here, I used a charcoal colored sofa (neutral but cool) and adorned it with mix-matched pillows in varying jewel tones. To anchor the look, I added tall blue chair, pink ottomans and a neutral rug with touches of blue, and white linen curtains with a block of blue at the base. The white curtains provided a great contrast to the light gray walls.
My clients like pink and blue respectively, so I made sure to combine the both colors along with blooms, pillows and vibrant art in complementary colors., Layering different shades of gray and different textures added dimension. In the dining room, the color is continued with art and the gorgeous china setting against a neutral table and dining chairs.
Your home should reflect your personality and be your favorite place to be. I love how the owners of this home steered away from maintaining a monochromatic palette and instead decided to play with color for a jewel toned space filled with luxe textures that literally brings a smile to your face the moment you step inside. Trust me when I tell you it captures the couples personality perfectly. I loved designing this space and I hope you enjoy the photos of it.
Do you favor a neutral palette, a pop of color or full on color? Would it surprise you to learn that I love all 3? Let me know your favorite part of this space and stay tuned for more posts on decorating your home and samples of my design projects. I’ve listed the majority of my sources above so you can easily purchase the pieces you’d like to add to your space.
