When former engineer Audrey McLoghlin founded Frank & Eileen in 2009, she was motivated by the idea of creating a button-up that was both feminine yet functional and comfortable to wear. How did Owner Audry McLoghlin Get Involved with Fashion?

Unlike most fashion designers working for major brands, Audrey McLoghlin started her career in a bit of an usual way. As a child, she always wanted to study engineering and made the decision to pursue it in college. However, after graduating she started looking for a new passion and quickly fell in love with the idea of manufacturing and production in the fashion space.

Audrey eventually realized that her passion for making things didn’t just involve electrical circuits and equipment. At the age of 25, Audrey decided to pursue a full time career in the fashion industry. Her background in engineering gave her an advantage in solving problems and thinking critically when it comes to her business strategies!

Frank & Eileen has been certified as a B Corporation. This means that the company has been verified to the highest environmental and social standards. One of the most important factors that Frank & Eileen considers when it comes to being sustainable is finding the world’s best producers of textiles. Audrey has worked with the late patriarch of the Albini mill, who is known for his commitment to ethical practices. Aside from being able to produce some of the most sustainable fabrics, the company also ensures that its materials are traced back to the field of where it came from.

When the company first launched the knitwear capsule about five years ago, they looked to California for inspiration. Since the state produces some of the most exceptional knitwear in the world, they decided to work with local artisans in Los Angeles. • Accountability & Performance Standards: B Lab analysts certify benefit corporations. These organizations are responsible for reporting their performance, and state agencies do not assess the ongoing performance of benefit corporations.
• Recognition: The B Corp is a private certification that evaluates an organization’s performance. It can be used by companies to promote their products and services by using the B Lab logo. A benefit corporation, on the other hand, is a government-recognized status that’s only applicable once a benefit eligibility has been determined.
• Pricing: Corporations that are benefit organizations pay around $70 to $200 in state filing fees. On the other hand, B Lab certification fees are around $500 to $50,000 depending on the size of the company’s revenues.
